What is Balance in All Things?

Balance in all things?

Is this a yoga site? How about a gymnastics site?

Nope, sorry. It is simply a blog to discuss the changes in my life as I try to better balance all of the conflicting elements that vie for my precious time. I am hopeful that I can hear from you as you talk about the best ways you have found to keep your life in balance.

We all have so many facets to our lives these days: financial, physical, spiritual, emotional, and relational. Each one of these pulls at us with certain needs and looks to gain a monopoly on the one commodity we cannot make more of: time. Each of these facets are interrelated and when one gains dominance, the others wane causing imbalance in our lives and additional stress that we just don’t need. For example, a recent study showed that people who sleep less than seven hours at night are more likely to be overweight.

I am a big proponent of the concept of balance in all things. That is, by preventing one or two things in your life from becoming dominant, you allow yourself to better enjoy all of the things that life brings you. For instance, by better controlling your spending, you can enjoy the fruits of your labor without devoting significant amounts towards interest payments. You may have to save a little longer for that thing you want to purchase, but in the end you’ll pay a lot less for it than someone who slaps down the credit card. For physical, it could simply be getting in the habit of exercising or watching what you eat so that you have good health for the long term. These are all simple concepts and we all know them, but they are only simple and noticable when you actually step back and think about them. Unfortunately, finding the time and persepective to actually step back is almost impossible.

I plan on using this blog to make me step back and think about these things in my life, and hopefully, by extention, in yours. I plan on covering topics such as:

  • Finding financial balance
  • Spiritual balance in 21st century
  • 500 channels of nothing on
  • Balance in times of stress
  • Children’s sense of immediacy
  • Is good enough, good enough
  • Identifying when you fall out of balance
  • Knowing who you are

and many others.

So please feel free to leave comments and extend the discussion. As a little background, I have a Bachelor’s in Marketing and a Masters in Business, so I’m not exactly schooled in the psychological aspects of finding balance. Instead I’m just using painful experience to help shape myself and my life into what it ultimately should be.

Take this journey with me.

Thanks.
